To change the foreign registration plate to the Spanish, it is necessary to obtain a certificate from an engineer, which costs 400 Euros, pass the ITV in Spain, which costs to an imported a vehicle about 200 Euros; then you have to pay import tax, which is 25% of the current value of the vehicle (in the Tax Agency). If the vehicle is British, you must change the headlights. Once this is done, the traffic rate (100 Euros) and plates (50 Euros) are paid, the vehicle is registered. The process takes between 14 and 21 days.

When we change the name of the owner of a vehicle, we need the original documentation of the vehicle, of the person who buys and photocopy of documentation of the seller, the purchase agreement, also the  town hall registration of the acquirer is required. You have to pay 4% of the current value of the vehicle tax and a fee of 55 Euros in traffic. The procedure can be performed within 24 to 48 hours.

Both for renewing your driver’s license or for replacing it by a Spanish one, you must present a medical report, which has a cost of about 60 Euros and is provided in the moment; four passport size photos are also needed, pay a fee of 30 Euros in traffic and, if it is a Spanish license it is obtained in a week, if it is an exchange (change the document of the original country for a Spanish one), the waiting process can take two months.

Each vehicle when it reaches 5 years of age must pass a technical inspection every two years, which will be annual when the vehicle reaches 10 years of age. You must pay a fee to the state of between 30 and 60 Euros, depending on the engine capacity of the vehicle. You should make an appointment with a week in advance and the process takes about three hours.

Any fine imposed by a local authority or by the DGT (Spain’s DVLA, Traffic office) is appealable. We can deal with the case so you do not have to pay an unfairly imposed fine or to reduce the amount of any other fine.
